Overcast today, a selected mixture
of gentle gray and rustic yellow paint
churns in the sky, sometimes
the plants hide away, brushing in the winds
sometimes they open up under the glow
stretching smiles past miles of canopy
open layers luminous, we can see worms
weaving, then they hide again
a natural shade engulfs the sky, and the land
is dim for miles, cool temperatures on skin
a seldom drop of water tickles, plants lick
then dry again with another ray, piercing
through clouds, masterful
like a staircase to heaven, our heads perch upright
toward that sight.
One ray turns to twelve, puncturing the cloud, breaking
to another open sky, for a moment--
the overcast of today, like a brilliant color slide,
a master playing with light switches,
on and off, and the occasional dimming;
our theatre in the sky.
